The holly tree that has recently been planted at the entrance to the course is one of seven various trees donated to the Club by the family of the late Tom Irons, one tree for each Grandchild.  Barry and his team have planted the other six trees at agreed locations around the course.

Tom started golf at the age of twelve at Paisley GC where he won several trophies including the prestigious Open competition, the Robertson trophy.   He was a member of Caldwell for more than twenty years, being the Captain in 2013 having previously been on the Board for some time.   He won several trophies including The Belhaven Scottish trophy at Perth for Captains and Secretaries, bringing credit to Caldwell.  He and wife June won the Wright Cup that year too!  Tom was involved with and encouraged the junior section and also for a time  organised the Newton Shield inter club senior matches. In retirement he was very involved with the Seniors’ section where he enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie, winning  several trophies and both organising and playing in the team matches for West Renfrewshire Seniors’  League competitions.  The Seniors have designated a competition in his memory – The Tom Irons Top Ten Competition.

Tom was very proud of being a member of Caldwell Golf Clun where he was known as a gentle man and friend to many.
