The weather for Caldwell’s 2023 Championship Day may not have provided the perfect backdrop, but it didn’t stop some fantastic golf being played. There were 4 trophies up for grabs, the Gents Championship, the Ladies Championship, the Handicap Plate, and the Rankin Cup.
Qualifiers for the Gents’ Club Championship were first out for the first of their 2 rounds in the the stroke play competition. All participants playing off scratch. They were followed by the Handicap Plate qualifiers. These are the group of players who didn’t make it through to the Club Championship, but had the best net scores in the qualifying competitions.
By the time Christine Wilson and Liz Hale set off for the Ladies’ Match Play Final, the worst of the weather was in full play.
When all was said and done, Kevin Fraser emerged victorious beating Paul Alexander in a play-off to win the Gents’ Championship. Christine Wilson was once again crowned Ladies’ Champion by beating Liz Hale. The Handicap Plate was a close run affair, with Graham Stirling pipping Stephen Cunningham on a count back.
The Rankin Cup which is awarded to the best net score of the Gents’ Championship group was won by Neil Richardson.
Well done to all who took part.
